Join us Friday, November 14 for a 3-hour visual art workshop at the University of Saint Francis! These workshops are designed specifically for high school students (grades 9-12) who are serious about their creative future and aspire to pursue creative studies beyond high school. All visual art workshops take place at the Rolland Art Center located on the SF main campus, 1014 Leesburg Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46808.

EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY: This workshop is perfect for students considering or who have already applied to SF. Get a taste of college life, connect with faculty, and experience our vibrant arts community firsthand.

BONUS: From 12-1pm, Junior and Senior students can opt to showcase their creative talent. This is your chance to impress our faculty with your portfolio and earn a talent scholarship to support your creative journey at SF. Awarded scholarships are renewable for eight semesters if the required grade point average is maintained, in addition to any academic scholarships or need-based grants a student might also receive.

STUDENT WORKSHOPS: Students can choose from one of seven exciting workshops! All workshops are led by our expert creative arts faculty and held in our state-of-the-art studios. (Cost: $20)

  • Printmaking: Make Your Own Sketchbook – Students will design their own sketchbook cover and print it using monoprint techniques. They will then bind a sketchbook using their monoprint design as the cover. Students should plan to bring sketches to work from. All other supplies will be provided.
  • Ceramics – Students will learn new hand-building/wheel-throwing techniques. Students will be able to complete one or more projects. Students should bring boxes to store their ceramic work.
  • Photography: Story Roulette – Transform written stories into compelling visual narratives! In this hands-on session, participants will learn the art of visual storytelling through photography and collage techniques. Students will work collaboratively with peers to create unique photo narratives, learn essential photo editing and composition skills, develop creative decision-making abilities, and receive constructive feedback in a supportive environment. Perfect for students interested in photography, creative writing, or visual arts. No prior photography experience needed - just bring your creativity! Students are encouraged to bring photographs of any size that can be cut up and shared in a communal collection with other students! All other materials are provided.
  • Graphic Design: Poster Design – Students will digitally design a poster utilizing the basics of Adobe Photoshop. No prior computer experience is needed.
  • Drawing – Whether students are interested in studio fine art, concept design for gaming, or comics and graphic novels, knowing how to draw is an essential skill for creative communication. Students will experience a fast-paced introduction to drawing at a professional level. Fundamental drawing techniques will be demonstrated and practiced. All materials are provided. (This course is ideal for students with limited or no experience drawing from direct observation)
  • Illustration: Candy – Illustration is such a "SWEET" artform. This workshop will be focused on the art of traditional illustration. Students will work with colored pencils, markers, ink, and other media to illustrate their favorite candy in a non-traditional way. Students may bring their own favorite candy or chocolate to draw from or use candy that will be provided. All materials will be provided for this class.
  • 2D Animation: Students will learn the basics of bringing a character to life, using Toon Boom Harmony. Frame-by-frame and rigged puppet animation will be discussed. All supplies will be provided, and no prior computer experience is needed.

TEACHER WORKSHOPS: Free concurrent workshops are available for teachers, providing you with new skills and resources to bring back to your classrooms. Earn 6 PGP Points!

  • Going Digital in the Art Classroom: Many art teachers are reluctant to enter the fray of the digital domain. Equipment capacities and costs along with fears and lack of comfort with digital technologies can be a challenging obstacle to taking advantage of the most state-of-the-art technologies we could be implementing in the classroom. This interactive smorgasbord will give participants the resources and confidence to experiment with a variety of web-based programs, including legitimate uses of AI for creating art, enhancing design processes and building learning objects, artistic use of coding, and many cool tools for artists. All participants will receive access to all resources discussed!
